About Kintsugi Psychotherapy

"What's between us seems flexible as the webbing between forefinger and thumb. Seems flexible but isn't; what's between us is made of clay like any cup on the shelf. It shatters easily. Repair becomes the task." – Chana Bloch Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing shattered ceramics with gold lining. Rather than throwing away an object that has been broken, for the committed potter the task becomes repair. The end result of the artist's patient work is that the breaks in the pieces are carefully – even visibly – reincorporated into the unique life of the object. Many of those looking for psychotherapy are responding to the feeling that things in life are breaking apart. Therapy can be a powerful tool to reflect on our past experiences, to explore making choices in ways that align with our values, and to dream new ways of being into existence. I have experiences working with those who are navigating significant life changes and working to integrate loss and pain including intergenerational trauma and spiritual concerns. I strive to bring warmth, curiosity, and humor to my clinical and consulting work. My background is in psychodynamic psychotherapy and integrating group and individual treatment. In this work, I am informed by training in health care chaplaincy, LGBTQ+ mental health, and antiracism organizing and training. I appreciate you taking the time to read my page. Please complete contact form below or email me at kenjikuramitsulcsw@gmail.com if you are interested in scheduling a free 15 min phone consultation. I would look forward to discerning whether working together feels like a good fit or otherwise providing you with external referrals based on your needs.
